Sanija Shisler Obituary
Born July 8,1929 in Kriva Palanka, Yugoslavia, our fearless aunt, Sanija Shisler, died on Feb 14, 2025 at the age of 95.
Sanija is predeceased by her parents Asmet and Efkara Nedzipov, sisters Kanije Jasharova and Leila, and her love, husband Howard Shisler. Sanija is survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Sanija grew up during unsettled war times in the former Yugoslavia and helped earn money for her family by washing socks. Her heart longed to see the world and she joined a group of performers travelling through Europe and South America where Sanija would sail through the air doing acrobatics.
Eventually, Sanijas travels led her to Port Colborne where she worked at the Rathfon Inn. It was there she captured the eye of her husband Howard. Sanija and Howard married and together made a wonderful life in their home on the shore of Lake Erie.
As the years went by, travel remained a passion and Sanija opened the world for Howard on many wonderful adventures through their life together.
Later, Sanija and Howard moved to an apartment at Portal Village where they found many new friends. They enjoyed over 52 years together until sadly health issues separated them at the end.
Taking on a caregiver role for Sanija these last few years was a gift for us. We got to know so much more of Sanijas life through her pictures and stories which we now treasure. Leaving her home and family to make her own way, travel the world, meet so many people and find her true love across the ocean truly is a life well lived – fearlessly. I write this with tears in my eyes but a smile on my face. Sanija, you will be missed.
A Funeral Service for Sanija will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne at 1:30 pm. with Pastor Michael Meleg officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Bethel.
