Sandra Rose Bogdon R.N.
November 30,1943 – February 15 2025
With a profound sense of loss and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sandra Rose Bogdon. After a brief period of illness at the age of 81, she passed away on February 15,2025. Sandra was a devoted and caring daughter, sister, aunt niece and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is predeceased by Father Jozef and Mother Jean Bogdon (Szwajkowski), her twin sister Sharon Bogdon and her sister in law Margot Bogdon.
She will be sadly missed by her brother Peter and her nephews Luke (Sara) and Zachary (Stephanie) and her 5 great nieces and nephews, Brynn, Blair, Jozef and Benjamin and Baby Bogdon( due in April).
Sandra was born and raised in Preston/Cambridge and graduated from St Mary’s School of Nursing (Kitchener) in 1965. After graduation she accepted a position at St Joseph’s Hospital London On in the Intensive Care Unit. She left Canada for London England to do further study in Cardiac Surgeries and emerging noninvasive procedures. On her return to Canada, she worked at the Wellsley Hospital in Toronto until 1974 when she took a job at Toronto Sick Kids Hospital in Intensive Care. She soon moved to the Cardiac Care Unit where she worked with a number of Doctors and Fellows and nursing collegues doing Pioneering work in Non Invasive Cardiac Procedures.
Sandra loved her work as a nurse. Throughout her career she made many lifelong friends wherever she went. If there was a function or party being planned there was no doubt Sandra would be helping to plan it. If someone was ill Sandra would be there to help. Her greatest joys came from times spent with friends and embarking on culinary adventures in the kitchen. She loved the Blue Jays (win or lose) and her preferred football team the Tiger Cats. She treasured gatherings with people everywhere. She enjoyed times where the laughter was loud and the time together always treasured.
Sandra maintained a strong connection with many groups who were a very large part of her life. After nursing graduation and through the next 60 years she remained close to her nursing classmates sharing their joys and sorrows. (apparently responsible for some matchmaking for some.) She was the centre of her close group of friends the YoYo’s (Nancy, Suzanne, Yolanda & Nicki) who shared many occasions or ‘just dinner’ together.
In the last 30 years, a good deal of her time was also spent on ‘the Chechalk farm’ with her special family, the Chechalk’s, who she adopted as her own and the Chechalk family fully made her one of theirs. Sandra learned how to grade garlic with Jan and how Not to go close to cows. Sandra shared many vacations with Joshua, Jan & Andrew, & her goddaughter Katie (of whom she was so very proud.) During the years she lived at the farm she shared lots of television with Mike and always tried to help Ann Marie with meals(mostly sampling!!) Joann had the great pleasure of a great friend.
Sandra was a member of the St Clements Catholic Women’s league, The St Vincent de Paul society at St Bridgit’s Parish in Toronto where she was a member and President for over 10 years. Most importantly, until 5 years ago she took great care of her parents and her Aunt Mary.
