PARKER, SANDRA-ANNE (née BRITTON) 1946-2025
With a deep breath and a final sigh, Sandy left us on the morning of February 3, 2025, in the beginning of her 79th year. As a young student she attended the Bala Avenue Community School before going on to graduate in 1964 from George Harvey Vocational, gaining the foundational skills for her work as a legal secretary. As the oldest of their three children, Sandy is predeceased by both of her parents, Douglas and Myrtle Britton (née Bingley), as well as her sister Sharon Willhoite (Ernie); she is survived by her younger brother James (Dan) who she became guardian of during his adolescent years. Her twinkling smile and sarcastic wit will be forever missed by her three daughters and their partners, Marcia (Dan), Heather (Joe), Terri (Shaun). Those left behind to grieve include her two Aunts who she loved so dearly, Ms. Amy Britton and Mrs. Arlene Bingley, as well as several cousins, including those amongst the Britton, Bingley and Greenwood clans. She had a particular fondness for Brian, with whom their families shared a home during their childhood years in the Weston neighbourhood; however, as an adult she found considerable support and friendship in Robert and Judy Larocque and was an honourary sister to Diane. She also leaves behind her nephew and niece Wade and Kim, as well as grandchildren Sophia and James. Spoiled puppy Ryder already misses Nana’s affections and specially fed treats. As a young bride Sandy had to grieve the passing of her first husband James Reginald Screen but maintained a lifelong kinship with his sister Mary Anne and her remaining family. Sandra’s time outside of the city was split between summers spent at the beautiful family cottage in Bobcaygeon, and during the girls’ school years in the small town of Hillsburgh, where she gained valuable friendships, including those with Raymond and Leslie. Upon her return to the city, mom went back to work and thrived amongst the excitement of living downtown and finding great friendships with some of her coworkers at American Express before her retirement. Particularly, the exceptional bond she formed there with Joe Sipien, was one she held dear and is sure to continue unbroken. Her family would also like to offer their immense gratitude and appreciation to the incredible staff at Amica Dundas who assisted us through the navigation of mom’s healthcare challenges these last few years and additionally handled her daily care needs; it is also necessary to provide thanks to the compassionate people at Parkland Ancaster, who provided mom, with excellent palliative care during her final weeks of the new year. A celebration of Sandy’s life will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Hamilton Halton.
