In Loving Memory
SAMUEL SAMPAIO CARREIRO
August 5, 1942 – February 8, 2025
“Always In Your Heart,
Picture me as I was,
Full of life and love
Although not with you now,
I’m watching from above,
I know how much
you miss me,
And I miss you too.
It was my time to leave,
As each of us will do.
Although not in your arms
I’m always in your heart
The precious love we shared,
means we’re never far apart.”
Our deeply loved Husband, Father, Grand-Father, Great Grand-Father, Brother, Uncle and friend has left this earth to join his Wife in Heaven. Sam was a role model and a hero to all blessed to meet him.
Born in Sao Miguel Azores and raised on the Island, Samuel was a man who lived by a strong moral compass, personified selflessness, and gave generously so others could succeed. He worked diligently at whatever he did and welcomed any chance to learn something new. Samuel was truly a Master of all trades, and no project was ever impossible.
Before Sam came to Canada in 1969, he served in the Portuguese Military working his way up through the ranks and eventually ended up training other soldiers. Afterwards, he finished his education and worked in various factories and labs establishing himself. After immigrating to Canada Sam learned English and went to school while working various jobs and received his Plumber/Pipefitter Diploma from Humber College in Ontario. Samuel worked for various contractors as a Plumber in Ontario and eventually moved to Manitoba continuing his trade for various contractors, Atomic Energy of Canada, Province of Manitoba and eventually retired from Manitoba Government Services. Sam had a special talent to make work not only productive but fun. Sam also served as a Volunteer Firefighter for the years he lived in Pinawa. Samuel enjoyed working on cars, fishing, sports and following his favorite teams progress. Samuel always brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.
Sam is lovingly remembered by his daughter-in-law Raquel Shaughnessy and grandchildren: Joshua Carreiro, Nathan Carreiro, Abigale Carreiro, Brock Carreiro, Jessica Carreiro, Chay-Anne (Darryl Lamonica) and great-grandchildren Isaac and Saveja Lamonica. The memory of Samuels spirit also lives in the hearts of his goddaughter Mel Isaku and his nieces and nephews: Lurdes Texiera, Aida Isaku, Urbano Texiera, Marco, Rui Amaral, Marta Carreiro, Brenda Carreiro, Marta & Regina DaSilva, Tony Carreiro, Rute Carreiro, Lucinda Carreiro, Maria Carreiro, Dina Carreiro and Dora Carreiro.
Samuel is predeceased by his sister Maria Jose DaSilva (Augusto), his brothers Antonio Carreiro (Aldoria), Jose Carreiro (Regina), Luis Carreiro (Valentina), Miguel Carreiro (Catarina) and nephews Luis Carreiro and Joel Carreiro who have all left this life before him.
Samuel and Manuela were married for 52 years before his wife passed away in 2022. Their devotion to each other’s wellness, health, and happiness was unparalleled. Their children meant the world to them both: Sammy and Nelson.
Our gratitude to the caregivers at Interlake Regional Health Authority who showed Sam kindness and care in his time of absolute need.
The family will celebrate Samuel’s life in a private gathering.
