Sally Ann Leppard Hoy was born May 17, 1941 in Bexhill-On-Sea to Joan Kathleen and William Leppard. The family, along with her older brother Michael, boarded the Aquitania when she was 8 years old to start a new life in Canada.
Sally was the strongest and hardest working woman who would turn every moment no matter how small, into an adventure. To say she inspired us all is an understatement.
She worked hard in her role as a camera operator in microfilm at the Archives of Canada and the RCMP, leaving lasting impressions with those who worked with her.
She faced adversity with a smile and a great sense of humour. She fearlessly protected those she loved and she loved us fiercely. She was always there for us and she always put us first. She taught us all the true meaning of unconditional love and cared for us so deeply.
We didn’t just count on her, we always knew we were the centre of her life. She found so much joy and happiness from watching each of us grow into the people we are and she loved being involved every step of the way. We were her priority and we are who we are today because of her.
Luckily, we never took our time with her for granted because we always knew how lucky we were to have such a special person by our side.
Sally had a great energy and had the ability to connect with everyone she met, making what would otherwise be insignificant interactions meaningful, leaving a lasting impression on anyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with her.
She was the kind of person who would (and often did) give anything she had to those who needed it, she would rather go without than to see someone else suffer. This included both humans and animals. She had a deep love for all animals and passed that trait down to all of us.
Her bravery and strength was shown through the last 14 years as she battled dementia and COPD, putting up a good fight every single day and still keeping her spark.
We thank the staff at The Salvation Army Grace Manor for doing the best they could to keep her comfortable in these challenging times.
Sally leaves behind her daughters Rima and Tanya, her grandchildren Keisha, Serena, Briana and Darim, her great-grandchildren Hudson, Avery and Autumn, her brothers Michael and Christopher (predeceased) and so many more extended family members and friends but her spirit will live on in all of us forever.
Sally left us on January 17, 2025, with her family by her side, just as she would have wanted.
