Ryta Faye McLean Obituary
Ryta McLean – A Girl from the Maritimes
July 21, 1934 – February 25, 2025
It is with sadness and much love that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ryta Faye McLean. Ryta passed away on Tuesday, February 25th at the age of 90 years after a visit with her devoted husband, Robert.
Ryta is lovingly remembered by her husband of 47 years, Robert, her children Alan (Suzanne), Shannon, Janice (Amin), Jayleen and stepdaughter, Dawn, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, five siblings and their spouses and countless nieces and nephews.
Ryta was pre-deceased by her infant brother Daniel, mother, Bertha, stepfather, Jacob, stepson Rick, two sisters, Carol and Gail, son-in-law Roger and nephews, Keith and Allen.
Ryta was born in the home of her maternal grandparents, Edward and Marjorie Mann. She lived her first 17 years in the province of New Brunswick and then followed her grandparents to Toronto where she lived from 1951 to 1955. While in Toronto, Ryta worked for Canadian Pacific Express, attended Bible College, enjoyed singing with the Youth for Christ Choir and at church.
Ryta moved to Edmonton in 1955 and had four children by 1961. Soon after, she found herself on her own, working hard to raise her children. She served in the Army Reserves for four years from 1966 to 1969. At the age of 38, Ryta decided to go back to school. She attended Grant MacEwan College in the Social Work Program and spent several years as a Home Care Provider. It was also during this time (1974) that Ryta met Robert, and they later married in 1978. She loved him dearly and they had 51 wonderful years together.
A Celebration of Ryta’s Life will take place at noon on Thursday, March 6th at Life Church 4461 – 50th Street NW, Edmonton.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the amazing staff at Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre for the kind support and care shown to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ryta’s name to Father’s House Church in Edmonton at fathershousefinance@gmail.com
