Joyce exemplified the Christian life, serving her family, her church and her volunteer work at Echo Lake youth camp faithfully her whole earthly life. The most unselfish person, Joyce touched thousands of lives in her many roles as public school teacher, church member, mother, grandmother and ambassador for her Lord and Saviour.
Joyce began her teaching career in Piccadilly school, soon after graduating from teachers college at age 18 and retired in 1992. She endured many health challenges over the years, but always with grace and without a word of complaint. Her generosity to those who needed a meal, a bed or just a word of encouragement was always evident. Fiercely independent, she rejected any offers of help and just made up her mind to keep doing what she loved to do. In recent years, she moved to Chartwell Conservatory Pond and greatly enjoyed the kind staff and many friends she made there. Special thanks to the staff for making her feel so welcome there. Family meant the world to Joyce, and she was so proud of all her grand and great-grand children.
Joyce was a wise and caring woman who changed many lives through her genuine interest in every person who came across her path. We are thankful to God that He blessed all of us with her life and made us better people because of her.
We thank her long-time care providers, especially Dr. Sanfilipo, as well as the caring and dedicated nursing staff at KGH. While unbelievably saddened for her loss, we celebrate her example, and her release from her physical ailments to be at peace forever with her Lord.
Visitation will be at Kingston West Free Methodist Church (1575 Woodbine Rd), under the care of Wartman’s Funeral Home, Wednesday May 7, 2-4pm and 6-8pm, with Funeral on Thursday May 8th at 11am with visitation one hour prior.
If desired, gifts in memory of Joyce Sears may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to Echo Lake Youth Ministries Inc (Cheque or e-transfer to etransfer@echolakecamp.ca).
