Obituary For Ruth Cora Doreen Denison (née Peacock)
June 10, 1949 – February 3, 2025
With heavy yet peaceful hearts, we announce the passing of Ruth Cora Doreen Denison.
Ruth was born at home in Leicester, Alberta, to George and Mabel Peacock. She often shared fond memories of growing up on the family farm alongside her four sisters and brother, their adventures, mischievous pranks, and the excitement of new technologies arriving at their home. She began her schooling on horseback, riding alongside her older sister Margaret to the little school in Leicester. The bus first started running to High Prairie for school when Ruth was in grade 2. It was a huge deal when the family first got electricity when Ruth was in grade 7 and a black and white television a few years later.
In 1969, while attending school in Lethbridge, Ruth met Lee on a blind date. Six months later, in December, they married, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 55 years. Their love grew into a family with the arrival of their daughters, Shelley in 1974 and Sheila in 1976. They made their home in the Peace Country, living in Nampa and smith before settling in Grande Prairie.
Ruth worked for many years as a Legal Secretary in Peace River and Grande Prairie. She took pride in her hard work, dedication and attention to every detail. She made many friends that she worked alongside each day.
Family was the heart of Ruth’s life. She was always planning activities for her daughters, nieces and nephews and then her grandchildren and grand-nieces and nephews. She loved taking them outside to explore, have a fire and hotdog roast, camping trips or just a walk to the slushie store.
Ruth found joy in gardening, baking, camping, and traveling to High Prairie for visits. She embraced volunteer work. She was known for her unwavering work ethic, kindness, and devotion to those she loved.
Ruth will be deeply missed by her husband, Lee; daughters, Shelley (Darcy) LaCroix and Sheila (Carter) Rycroft; and the light of her life—her grandchildren: Jayden, Naomi, Leah, Reid, Trey, Alexa, and Ryker.
She is also survived by her siblings, Margaret (Myron) Karpa, Stan (Marion) Peacock, Shirley (Rudolph) Klatt, Barb (Jim) Nelson, and Denise (Lyndon) Drefs, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, George and Mabel Peacock, and her nephew, Joseph Peacock.
Our sincere thanks goes out to the nurses, doctors and health care aides at Prairie Lakes Seniors Home for their exceptional care of our mom and our family.
A graveside service is planned for March 2nd at 1:30pm at the Grande Prairie Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Bear Creek Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alberta & Northwest Territories Alzheimer Society.
Ruth’s warmth, laughter, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
