Roy Leahy Obituary
With heavy hearts, the family of Roy Joseph Leahy announces his passing on February 17, 2025. Born on April 17, 1956, he was the son of the late Dora (Keddy) and Joseph Leahy.
Roy was known for his strong work ethic and the pride he took in everything he did. He was well loved by all his work family whom he enjoyed working with and laughing with for so many years. In his early years, he attended the Amherst School for the Deaf, where he met his beloved wife, Mona, with whom he shared the rest of his life.
A devoted member of Mission Point Church (First United Pentecostal Church), Roy had a deep commitment to his faith. He had a special love for music and was a talented drummer despite his disability. He was always heard being silly in the kitchen with any utensil he had his hands on to drum with on the counter tops. He was able to hear with hearing aides as a young man so he’d be heard playing his favorite records as loud as he could. He loved to laugh and be all around silly but was also a very deep thinker. Roy enjoyed spending time in nature alone or with his daughters, getting lost in the woods, and going on hikes discussing God and what heaven might be like. He also did some urban exploration with daughters in tow discovering interesting, abandoned places. His passion for antique cars was abundantly clear as well with his collection of model cars and magazines. The cherry red 1957 Chevy Impala being his absolute favorite.
Roy will be greatly missed by his wife of 45 years, Mona (LaPlante); daughters Monica Leahy, Carmel Leahy (Terrence), and Heather Leahy-Goguen (Chris); grandchildren Jaydon, Isaiah, Willow, Alanna, and Elora-Danan; brother Miles Leahy (Linda); sister Linda Cardinal; as well as his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his sister, Grace Keddy.
Roy will be resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). A Funeral Service will take place at Mission Point Church, 130 Mark Drive, Saint John, NB, E2J 4H5, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Fernhill Cemetery.
