Roy Lincoln Hjorleifson
It is with great sadness that the family of Roy Hjorleifson announce his peaceful passing at the age of 92 years.
Roy will be lovingly remembered by his children: Darlene (Karl), Ron (Roxanne), Tom and Karen (Shaun). He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, loving wife, Isabel, brother Stewart, sister Thora and grandson, Ryan.
Roy grew up in Winnipeg Beach where his family faced many hardships, losing their family home to fire when he was a young boy and then losing his mother to cancer when he was 10 years old. He enjoyed playing hockey and cross country running in his youth. At 19 years of age, he was employed with Arnason Dairies, then Modern Dairies, and finally Lakeland Dairies. During this time, he met the love of his life, Isabel. They married and had 4 children. In 1964, he changed careers and was employed at Manitoba Highways Department, moving to Arborg in January of 1966. He retired from the Highways Department in 1992, but continued working as a land surveyor for the Town of Arborg and surrounding municipalities for several years.
Roy loved playing the guitar and singing. He also enjoyed curling and socializing at the legion or having coffee with friends at Chicken Chef. He was an animated story teller with a big heart and a smile for everyone. Attending church was very important to him. He was a member of his church board and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Special thanks to the staff at Arborg Assisted Living and Home Care, where he received such loving care as well as Dr. C. Ota and all those involved in the exemplary care he received during his stay at Selkirk General Hospital.
Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, January 23rd at 1:30 p.m. at the Winnipeg Beach United Church, 30 Murray Ave, Winnipeg Beach.
Roy and Isabel are together again.
