It is with great sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Roy Monforton, who left us on August 7th, 2025, at the age of 87. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family after living a long and fulfilling life. Roy was the beloved husband of Florence (nee Meloche) for 60 wonderful years and the father of Anita Bertelle (Kirk) and Marcel Monforton (Christie). He was the cherished Pip of Brenna Lachance (James), Ashley Horn (Ryan) and Brandon Bertelle; Amelia, Alayna, Jayna and Tyler Monforton; as well as great-grandfather to Brextyn, Wrenley, Henri and baby Lachance. Predeceased by siblings Nelson, Leo, Fr Marc, Orval, Lloyd, James and Leona; brothers in-law Joe Grady, Paul Langlois, Raymond Meloche; and sisters in-law Estelle, Mignonne, Doris and Lucille. He is survived by sisters Mary Jane Grady of Kennebunk Maine, Margaret Reeb of Sarnia, Cecelia Monforton of River Canard and sister-in-law Carmel. Also, by brothers -in law Alvin Meloche (Mabel), Louis Meloche and sister-in-law Rosemary Jones.
A devoted Catholic, Roy was the seventh son of the seventh son, a blessing which, by tradition, gave him the special gift of healing. This gift was recognized by doctors in earlier years and provided him with the well-known nickname “Doc.” His faith guided his life, being a proud and active member of St. Joseph Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Before his retirement, Roy worked as a custodian for 15 years at St Jean Baptiste and Monseigneur Augustin Caron grade schools where his dedication, reliability, and willingness to lend a hand made him an irreplaceable part of the community. Earlier in life, he worked as a carpenter building homes and in roofing and siding.
Roy was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leaf and Toronto Blue Jays fan, and a lover of country music. It was not uncommon for Roy to be watching a hockey game, whether a Leaf’s game on his TV, or his grandchildren’s hockey games at the local arena. Known for his generosity and his calm steady presence, Roy was a man who was always there for his family and friends. He and Florence were generous hosts, welcoming loved ones into their home for parties and gatherings, with Florence’s delicious meals and Roy ensuring drinks were in hand. Family barbecues were a highlight, with Roy always in charge of charcoaling chicken over a fire. He was a central figure in the Monforton family, being the last remaining of his brothers and remaining a source of love, kindness and support that will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Special thanks to Drs. Morvay, Sorenson and Ghafoor for their continued care and heartfelt thanks to cousins Phil, Josette and Linda for always being available to help taxi our parents to their doctor appointments and for their continued support and love.
If you so desire, donations to Windsor Es County Cancer Centre Foundation or St. Joseph Parish Restoration Fund would be appreciated by the family.
Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Church River Canard on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 9:30am until the time of the Mass at 11:00am.
