Ronald Lawruk Obituary
Ronald Nicholas Lawruk
March 29 th , 1934 – January 31 st , 2025
Beloved husband, loving Dad, Poppa and Uncle crossed his personal finish
line with his wife Merla by his side. Our Dementia journey is over!
Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Florence Lawruk, sister Joan and
brother-in-law Charlie. He is survived by sister Margaret Bonefant
(Richard), daughter Debbie Sheremeto (Paul), Wendy Carlan (John), Dinah
Robinson (Chris Brackett), Amy Robinson (Mark Jeffrey), Wesley
Robinson, goddaughter Donna Diffin, grandsons; Matthew Gagnon
(Kaitlyn), Brad Gagnon, Zachary Carlan (Sydney), Josh Carlan (Julie),
Davis Jeffrey; great grandchildren, Charlotte Gagnon, and Anderson
Gagnon; nieces, nephews, their spouses, and children.
Ron had a successful career as an Intelligence Officer with
Communications Security Establishment for over 30 years. His love of
fishing started when he was a little kid where his parents could find him
sitting on the walls of the Rideau Canal most days in the summer. Golfing
was a hobby that he pursued in his thirties. He loved the challenge of
tournaments.
In his free time, he ran a dance club for teenagers at Lakeside Gardens for
several years in the 80’s for the city of Ottawa.
In his retirement, Ron wrote and published 8 books. He learned to square
and round dance with Merla. For the past 33 years they danced, golfed,
hiked and traveled extensively. He was happy that he was retired longer
than his CSE career.
When Ron was diagnosed with Dementia, he and Merla received
tremendous support from the Dementia Society of Lanark. Ron attended
four ‘Day Away’ programs per week. Ron considered it ‘going back to work’
and was often found helping others in the program.
At Stoneridge Manor in Carleton Place, Ron’s final home, the family
sincerely appreciated Dr. Drake’s care as well as the loving staff.
Donations to the Dementia Society of Ontario would be appreciated as a
remembrance of Ron if you wish.
