His many other nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Ron.
The Hanna family was important to Ron and he enjoyed many fun times including several Ronnie, Bonnie and Connie projects.
Ron was known for his legendary work ethic. At age 11, he peddled horseradish sauce with his grandmother and repaired bicycles to raise money. His high school days were spent wrecking and salvaging old cars, allowing him to buy his first of many vehicles, a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Upon graduation, he entered the work force at Philips Cables and then Dupont, always spending his spare time doing a variety of odd jobs. A strike at Dupont offered Ron time for bigger projects and with his three young children at home and the support and encouragement of Doris, he left the security of Dupont to create Ron Alguire Building Services. He never looked back , hiring several young men to form a hard working, talented crew that helped him develop a successful building business. The company, with Doris in the office and Ron in the field, affored them the opportunity to entertain family and friends at their vacation home in Venice, Florida. Summers were spent enjoying their little piece of paradise at Watch Hill Point on Charleston Lake. In later years, Ron and Doris took several excursions abroad, highlighted by a trip down the Amazon River.
Upon retirement from his building business, Ron returned to working on smaller projects, that included renovations, wood turnings, bird houses and lawn furniture. He kept himself busy right to the end, despite his failing health.
Our family would like to acknowledge the friends and neighbours that continued to check in and visit Ron, although often difficult due to his hearing and health issues; Don and Bea Murphy, Dick Van Spiel, Doug “Doc’ Wight, Steve Seabrooke and Chris Brouwer.
Special thanks to Dr. Stobo, Nurse Practitioner Lesley Petras and the many caring professionals of the Athens District Family Health Team, who looked after Ron so patiently these last few years. Also, many thanks to Dr. Meera Ruparelia and the nurses and staff of the second floor at BGH for making Ron’s last days so comfortable.
Respecting Ron’s wishes, there will be no service or visitation. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Athens Medical Centre or Athens Food Bank would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Judson’s Funeral Home.
