It is with great sadness that the family of Roland Pearcy Hicks announce his passing on January 22, 2025, at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate at the age of 74.
Roland is predeceased by his parents George and Beatrice Hicks; son Sandy Hicks; brother Ernest Hicks; sister Geraldine (Ronald) Hynes; and brother-in-law William Hynes.
Roland leave with precious memories: loving wife Glenis of 45 years; children Craig (Rebecca) Hicks and Jo-Ann (Matthew) Baggs; grandchildren: Timothy, Brandon and Micheal; great-grandchild Rosalie; sisters Margaret Hynes and Louise (Wilson) Froude and a circle of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Roland is born and raised in Twillingate to George and Beatrice Hicks. At the age of 15 he went to work at the Twillingate Fish Plant and was there until he retired at the age of 65. On February 9, 1979 Roland married Glenis Pardy of Bonavista and together they raised 3 children Craig, Sandy and Jo-Ann.
In his younger and healthier years Roland loved spending time in the evenings on the pond trouting. In his later years it gave him even more joy when he was able to share it with his grandson, Timothy. In the winter months he would be found sawing wood to the following year. Roland took great pride in his family and he always made sure they were taken care of; anything they needed he was there to help.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate for their amazing love and care given to Roland and his family over the past few months.
