It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roland Fortier at the age of 87 — a man of deep faith, now in the arms of his Savior.
He was predeceased by his father, Hervé Fortier Sr., his mother, Lydia Fortier, and his brothers Eddie Fortier and Robert Fortier (Thérèse). He is survived by his other siblings: Simone Landry (Raymond), Hervé Fortier (Shirley), and Lucille Grondin (Victor), as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was especially grateful to his older brother Herve and sister-in-law Shirley for the many moments shared and the support they provided over the years. He also deeply loved spending time with his cherished niece Liza Auclair, and his great-nephews Nicholas, Jonah, and Alexandre Hall, who held a special place in his heart.
From a young age, Roland was filled with a deep passion for the Catholic faith. He studied religion and theology with devotion and attended seminary in the hope of becoming a priest. Sadly, shortly before his ordination, illness forced him to set that path aside. Nevertheless, he remained fully committed to serving God and the Church throughout his life. A joyful man, generous with both his time and resources, Roland had a gift for making everyone feel seen and appreciated. He had the lovely habit of giving cards to everyone — a simple yet meaningful gesture that reflected his thoughtful and loving heart. He chose to live simply in an apartment close to the church so he could always be available to serve. Always smiling and neatly dressed, he maintained a positive attitude no matter the challenges he faced. His life was a testament to a living, humble, and radiant faith. Roland was also involved in the CMHA community, where he formed many lasting friendships and offered constant support to those around him. His best friend, Father Alexis, was a true spiritual brother with whom he shared many precious moments. Everyone who knew him loved him. His laughter, kindness, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed, but his legacy remains an inspiration.
Donations may be made to the Paroisse Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix or the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Paroisse Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix (288 Commercial Avenue). Followed by the funeral mass at 11:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
