Passed away peacefully at the Brightshores – Owen Sound Hospital on March 21st, 2025, in his 97th year.
Robert was the loving husband for 70 years of Margaret (Peggy) Marie (Linton) Patterson, deceased 2022. Proud father of Dennis (Marcia), Larry (Louise), Sharon Huckle (Kevin). Grandfather of Andrea, Michael (April), Scott, Paul (Trina), Andrew (Kyla), Trevor, David, Jeffrey, Jenna, and 11 great- grandchildren. Dear brother of Douglas (Katherine), Nancy Sheffield, Ken (Jeanette) and brother-in-law of Elaine Patterson and Marlene Linton.
Predeceased by his parents Oscar and Ada (Acheson), sister Joyce Sherrit, brother Gerald, brother-in- laws Jay Sheffield and Douglas Linton.
Bob was born in Melanethon Township, Dufferin County. He left school at the age of 12 to work on the family farm. At 18 he moved to Owen Sound and worked for Keenan Industries and National Table Co Ltd. In 1960, he took a job with the Owen Sound Board of Education in the maintenance department. Bob worked hard over the years to achieve his grade 12 education, and with his skills in carpentry, in 1968 he became a Woodworking Teacher at West Hill Secondary School. He taught there for 20 years until his retirement in 1988. During this time he achieved his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Western Ontario and a Teaching Degree from the University of Toronto. Bob was actively involved in the Owen Sound Community. He served as President of the Owen Sound Minor Hockey Association and the Owen Sound Baseball Association. He coached various sports teams and was instrumental in organizing and implementing the Dufferin School Breakfast Club. Bob spent many hours helping on committees and projects at Central and Central Westside Church.
Internment will take place on May 10th at 10 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dundalk Ontario. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
A funeral service to Celebrate Bob’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound 519-376-7492, on Saturday, May 10th at 2:30 p.m. with visitation starting at 1 p.m. Reception to follow.
For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed and a recorded version will be posted online.
