Robert Milne Obituary
After facing several months of health challenges and a difficult diagnosis, Robert Milne passed away on the evening of January 22, 2025, at the age of 79 due to complications from asbestos exposure. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Milne (Kososki), father, John Milne, and brother, George Milne.
Robert is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Madeleine Milne (Sicotte), and their three children: Derik (Alana), Jason (Nikki), and Diana (Gord). He also leaves behind six grandchildren—Gina (Zach), Mia, Clara, Tanner, Max, and Brody—and their mother, Kelly, as well as step-grandchildren Tyler (Logan) and Noelle (Jayce). Robert is also survived by his brothers, Don (Glenda) and Art (Donna), his sister, Agnes, close family friend, Elaine, sister-in-law Rita, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was born in Neepawa on August 10, 1945, and moved to East Selkirk at the age of six where he attended school with his mother, Mary, as his teacher. He spent his childhood and much of his life on the east side, where he eventually built his dream home. In 1968, Robert married Madeleine, and together they raised their family in the community they loved.
A dedicated public servant, Captain Robert Milne was a founding member of the East Selkirk Fire Department, serving with pride for 34 years. Through his service, he formed many enduring friendships before retiring in 2001. His ties to the fire department did not end with retirement as he continued to attend events each year thereafter.
Robert worked at the University of Manitoba, where he and his colleagues affectionately joked about his role as a “doctor of plumology.” He retired in 2015, but the bonds he formed with his co-workers lasted well beyond his career.
In his spare time, Robert embraced life to the fullest. He was a passionate marathon runner, an avid traveler, and a devoted family man. He enjoyed family vacations, days spent on his pontoon boat, and adventures in his motorhome. He also had a keen eye for Audi vehicles, always on the lookout for his next prized car.
Robert’s warm spirit, unwavering dedication, and love for his family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Liang at the Health Sciences Centre and the staff at Selkirk Hospital for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization of your choice in Robert’s memory.
