Calgary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Legare, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Robert passed away on March 11, 2025, at the age of 77, leaving a legacy of love, kindness, and joy. His presence touched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Robert was a man who truly appreciated the beauty of life, finding joy in the simplest moments. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Leslie Strong, with whom he shared 26 years filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures. As a father, Robert was a steadfast source of guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love. But his greatest joy was being a grandfather. He cherished every moment with his grandsons, Mederic and Octave, eagerly sharing stories from his life, offering wisdom about the world, and encouraging them to follow their dreams. Whether it was giving career advice, emphasizing the value of hard work, or simply listening, Robert’s impact on their lives was profound.
A man of many talents and passions, Robert was an exceptional cook, delighting in the art of creating meals that brought people together. His kitchen was a place of warmth and creativity, where his culinary creations reflected his deep care for those around him. His passion for cooking was matched only by his love for woodworking. Robert spent countless hours crafting beautiful, intricate pieces, showcasing his patience and craftsmanship. His skills also extended to helping his wife, Leslie, with her weaving projects, offering his support and expertise in any way he could.
Robert’s love for photography was another of his many passions. His camera was never far from his side, capturing memories that would last a lifetime. He documented his travels, whether on family outings or long trips across Canada, sharing these adventures with his loved ones and teaching them to appreciate the beauty of the country.
In addition to his hobbies, Robert had a deep appreciation for music, theater, and the arts. He was an avid supporter of the arts, regularly attending plays and performances, and sharing his enthusiasm with others. His love of theater often sparked lively conversations about his favorite productions, with his energy and passion always shining through.
Robert leaves behind a family who adored him: his wife, Leslie Strong; his daughters, Catherine Legare (and her husband Eric Gagnon), Caroline Legare (and her husband Stephane Demontigny), and his stepdaughter, Anita Kozinski (and her husband Chris Smith); his grandchildren, Mederic and Octave; his brother Gilles Legare (and his wife Diane Campeau), as well as many other relatives and friends.
Rest in peace, dear Robert. The mountains are calling, and you must go. You will be deeply loved and missed more than words can express.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
