Robert Francis Symonds of Bonaventure Avenue, St. John’s, NL
June 5, 1935 – May 29, 2025
Bob passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on May 29, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife Helen and is leaving to mourn his son Robert (Joanne), granddaughter Lexi, sister Elizabeth, and brother Douglas (Carol).
Bob was a kind, witty, intelligent man of diverse interests and passions. His decades-spanning position with CN Telecommunications took him from Toronto to Moncton to St John’s and finally to Gander where he held the position of Vice President and General Manager of Terra Nova Tel. A long-time member of Toast Masters, Bob was often called upon to MC events, where he demonstrated his talent for public speaking along with his humour and love of a good pun. On retirement, he and Helen moved to Maddox Cove where they enjoyed many years pursuing their interests including travel, camping and spending time with friends and family.
Bob was known for his humour, chess mastery, card tricks, cartoons and sketches, water colour paintings and photography. He loved music of all genres, particularly jazz, and enjoyed playing harmonica and button accordion. In recent years, Bob took great pleasure in creating memes and jokes, as well as his regular visits to share a pint with his friends at the Georgetown Pub.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
