Robert (Bob) Francis Atkinson born April 11, 1939, passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Saturday March 22nd. He would have turned 86 in a few weeks, and we encourage family and friends to have Black Forest Cake that day – no need for candles because he wouldn’t want a fuss.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband to Marlene for almost 64 years. He was an inspiration to his children Belinda (Kevin), Brian (Jenifer) and the late Roberta (Randy). Bob was a Papa of the ages to grandchildren Crystal, Zachary (Erica), Grace, and Elly. We find great comfort that he is now able to be “Papa” to his granddaughter Crystal, who passed away in infancy in 1985. The grandkids find it comforting that she gets to have her Papa now,..
On March 10th Bob celebrated 47 years of sobriety. His Hampton New Life Group will miss his guidance, his wisdom, his humour and his fellowship.
The Atkinson Family would like to thank the care and compassion shown by the nurses and staff on 2 East, especially Robin, Jessica, Mykeala and Sofia for their warm care. They are in the right job, we are grateful to you all for your quiet support.
Bob’s passing leaves a hole in many people lives. He was funny. He was sarcastic. He watched and listened, more than he talked. When he talked, he contributed. He was a wise and gentle man. His blue eyes held a glint of mischievousness that won’t soon be forgotten. We could go on and on, but we have learned through Bob that the quality of word is of greater value than the quantity.
Visitation will be from 11-1pm on April 26th at The Port Whitby Marina, Avalon Lounge. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will follow from 1-3pm.
