It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) George Cook, who died on January 23, 2025, at the age of 85, after a courageous 10-year battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Robert will be remembered for his natural curiosity, good nature, gentle smile, laughter and quick wit. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Robert leaves behind to cherish the memories of a life beautifully lived, his loving wife and best friend of 63 years, Marie; daughters, Rosiland Collins (Perry) and Jeannine Cook Adams (Kevin); cherished grandchildren, Shane (Amanda) and Michael (Vanessa) Collins; and Samantha (Austin) and Robbie Cook Adams; adoring great-grandchildren, Wynter O’Leary, Emily and Madison Collins; brothers, Herbert and Paul (Theresa); sisters, Edna Ashman, Olga Soper (Edward) and Marilyn Cook; sister-in-law, Genevieve Cook; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends. Robert was predeceased by his two precious sons, Kenny and Robbie; his courageous granddaughter, Danielle Collins; his parents, Robert and Elsie; brothers, Chesley and James; sisters Betty Courage, Dorothy Ross, Lola Boland and Barbara Fuca; nephews, Gary Cook, David Courage and infant James Cook.
An inspiration to us all, Robert’s love and pride for his family exceeded many accomplishments. His courage, grace, humility, and strength were evident over the years as he met his own challenges while still showing compassion to others. He certainly was a people person who was always interested in keeping in touch with family, friends and acquaintances.
Robert’s work ethic, sense of adventure and responsibility became evident early in life when as a young man, he left the family farm and ventured to Labrador City where he sought employment with the Iron Ore Company of Canada. They fostered numerous relationships that have endured to this day. On the family’s return to St. John’s, Robert became involved in various business interests, from operating the Elizabeth Irving Station with his family for many years before venturing into the heavy equipment operations which became his true passion. However, he enjoyed nothing more than family dinners and gatherings, especially on his birthday. In recent years, Robert looked forward to the weekends and enjoyed visits with his family and friends at his cherished vacation home in Heart’s Delight.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who provided care and support: Dr. Bruce Doulton, Dr. Jacqueline Costello, the home care support workers and the Palliative Care Program.
The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, January 25th and from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. on Sunday, January 26th.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m., from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Cremation to follow
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Daffodil Place.
May he rest in peace.
