Obituary of Rixford Arden Derby
It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Rixford Arden Derby, on March 5th, 2025, with his loving family by his side, at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (2018). Loving father of the late Ruth Ann (1958), Christine (Roy) Beer, Terry (Rhonda) Derby and Janice (John) Stokes. Proud grandpa Matthew (Angela) Beer, Josh Beer, Adam Beer, Wes (Tabatha) Derby, Cole (Charlotte) Derby, Shelby (Joel) Thomas, Alyssa (Sam) Carrothers, Amanda (Chris) Edmunds, Amber (Stephen) Oulds, and Abby Stokes. Cherished great-grandpa of Marley, Onyx, Ezra, Aria, Rhys, Maci, Nolan, Mackenzie, Maija, Everett, Deven, Carter, and two on the way!
Survived by his siblings Denny, John, Betty. Predeceased by his parents Abner and Beatrice Derby, and his sister Wanda.
Rixford was a one-of-a-kind man who will be remembered by so many throughout this lifetime. He spent his career working for Ontario Hydro-forestry division, retiring at the young age of 57. Rixford was able to create the best of memories in his retirement. Rixford and Dorothy spent 61 precious years together. Rixford will be remembered for his love of sports; the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leaf’s were always on the tv. He was an avid hunter and had a great talent in taxidermy. Rixford had many dogs over the years that kept him great company and loved dearly. There were many summers of his life spent with his family camping at the trailer in Ipperwash, a favourite summer spot. Tending to the gardens and flower beds were another passion he enjoyed.
Rixford’s legacy was his family. He felt he had a wonderful life. He accomplished everything he wanted to. A great wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Rixford’s storytelling was second to none. He will be truly missed by all that knew him within our community. Rixford is now dancing in heaven with Dorothy.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Rixford’s life will take place on March 16th, 2025, from 2:00p.m. 5:00p.m. at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY. Words of remembrance will be shared at 3:30p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
