Obituary
Rita Verginella (nee Tonet), was born on February 18, 1934 in Monfalcone, Italy, a shipbuilding city near Trieste, on the Adriatic Sea. Her childhood was spent swimming in the sea, dances at La Vela, and hiking in the Dolomites. She grew up with Plinio Verginella, the man she would marry and follow to Hamilton in 1956. Rita was beautiful, tolerant, unconditionally loving, generous to everyone, an inventive and intuitive cook. She believed in education, she was anticlassist, pragmatic, a lover of crossword puzzles, wary of ostentation. She raised us, her three children in the glow of this beauty. She taught us to dance the boogie woogie in the kitchen while she cooked, she sewed for us and her grandchildren (halloween costumes, graduation dresses), she wanted to know us as people and she wanted us to discover who we were. How lucky we are to have had her, forward thinking, liberal, unfettered by custom. She leaves Deborah (Corrado), Roy, Dino (Pam) and her adored grandchildren: Andrea, Luca and Amelia. She was predeceased by her husband, Plinio, and her first born, Maurizio. She died peacefully on March 26, 2025, at the age of 91, as was her most profound wish, at home surrounded by her children who whispered to her that she was the best mother and most exquisite human. Join us as we celebrate her beautiful life on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at LIUNA station from 3 p.m.6 p.m. Donations can be made to the Good Shepherd Food Bank to honour a lifetime of feeding family and friends.
