Obituary of Riek Vander Burgt-Willert
VANDER BURGT-WILLERT: It is with heavy hearts we announce Hendrika “Riek” Johanna (Rutten) Vander Burgt-Willert, who passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy, formerly of Grand Bend, in her 97th year. She is survived by her 2nd husband Fred Willert, her five children, late John (2016) (Harriet), Peter (Cindy), Leo (Heather), Ed (Gloria), Joanne (Gary), Henry (Alicia), fourteen grandchildren; Natalie (Pete), Nicholas (Megan), Josh (Danielle), Katie, Kendra (Matt), Keri-Ann (Brett), Adam (Samantha), Andrea (Boston), Jessica, Ryan (Melissa), Ariane (Jeremy), Dylaina (Brodie), Aidan, KC as well as 21 great-grandchildren. Also remembered by Fred’s 4 sons and their spouses Dennis, Gary (Cecile), Rod (Chris), Mark (Linda) and several grandchildren as well as great grandchildren. Riek also leaves behind her loving sisters and brothers who reside in Holland. She is predeceased by her first husband Hendricus (Henry) Vander Burgt (1999) and grandson James Henry Vander Burgt (1981). Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood with Visitation of Monday, May 19, 2025 from 5 to 8 p.m., with Parish and CWL prayers being offered at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Grand Bend on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Tony Laforet Celebrant. Interment Pinery Cemetery, Grand Bend. Riek was a founding member with the CWL at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Grand Bend. If desired, memorial donations (payable directly) to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
