Obituary of Richetta Fratangelo
March 22nd, 1926 – April 27th, 2025
It is with immense sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our mother Richetta at the age of 99 surrounded by her family. She was a devoted mother, nonna and bisnonna. She will be reunited with her husband Nicola (1996), siblings Chiarina (2014), Maria (2002), brothers Dominic (2023) and Pietro (2024). She leaves behind her devoted children Peter and Lena (Ben) Grieco. Her grandchildren Daniel (Alexandra) Grieco, Stephanie Grieco and Alexander (Anna) Grieco and great grandchildren Florence, Oscar and Preston. Brother Gino (Anna) Frado, sister Concettina, niece Victoria (Oscar) Turchi, nephew Rino (Christina) Frado and Dr. Sam La Selva, along with other nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy.
Richetta was born in Castellion Del Biferno, (Compobasso) Italy to Salvatore & Victoria Fratangelo. Richetta emigrated with her husband and children in 1956. She was a woman who had three tenet that guided her life, family, God and hard work. With those three she believed anything could be accomplished.
Richetta was the consummate Italian mother who cooked and did things for her family. You never left her house empty handed or hungry. In her younger days she would knit, crochet and do needle work for her children and grandchildren. She was never happier than when she made her Italian dishes for the family, especially pizza and cavatelli which her grandchildren enjoyed immensely.
Later in life she and Nicola spent many years vacationing in Mexico, the Caribbean Island and Florida.
She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy in life, taking pride in their accomplishments. Always happy to see them, never failing to give them a kiss or hug.
Though her time on this earth has come to an end, she will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St. on Thursday, May 1st from 10 am to 12pm. A Funeral Mass for Richetta will follow at 12pm at St. Alfred Roman Catholic Church, 272 Vine St. Entombment Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If so desired donations made to the Marotta Family Hospital in Richetta’s memory would be appreciated by her family.
