Obituary of RICHARD BYNSKI
We recently said good bye to Ricky Bynski, King Richard, Luke or Bo (not Rosco), Richie Rich, RICHARD, Uncle Rick, brother.
Left to remember him are his parents, Charlie and Johanna; brother, Dave; sister, Cherie, nephews, Xander and Kelvin; niece, Rachel; as well as aunts, cousins and numerous friends.
We are incredibly proud of all he accomplished in his life! He was fearless and inspired us to be a better human by being kind to all, helping others and loving unconditionally.
Our family, our friends, neighbors, the Transcona community at large, New West Metals, Special Olympics and DASCH supported, rooted for and provided Rick with a safe and loving place allowing him to grow and flourish into the “old” man he became.
As kids he was a big part of the Laurentia Bay gang and spent many summer days and nights playing hide’n’seek, bus stop, tag and numerous hours swimming in our backyard pool.
He was also an incredible escape artist, as when we turned our backs he would be gone and turning up in a neighbours basement or when shopping at Woolco he would eventually be found hiding in the clothes racks and cupboards.
He so enjoyed being part of the community, first as a hockey and soccer player at East End Community Club and as a cub scout and then as a stick boy for all of Dave’s hockey teams. He graduated from TCI and was a member of the drama club appearing in plays. He worked at New West Metals for 16 years and was just considered one of the crew.
As an athlete, he competed in Special Olympics in swimming, down hill skiing, speed skating, curling and power lifting. He trained extremely hard and won medals in power lifting at the Nationals and International games!
He managed to gain the attention of every beautiful girl he came across with his eye brow raising and genuine smile. He always wanted a girlfriend and was so happy when he went on a few dates and brought flowers. He would just light up when we would ask him about it.
He had such positive energy. He would belt out Eye of the Tiger or Kenny Rogers songs, playing it on his Walkman or recording himself. To see him on the dance floor was something to behold, however to walk somewhere with him was a different story as he would say ‘no hurry’ and he meant it and he was lovingly nicknamed the A&W Root Bear for his strolling gait. He had such a sense of pride and stubbornness as he got older…a long teenage phase. Lol.
All of our dreams for him came true. He was highly independent, had a job he loved at New West Metals, took the bus on his own often stopping at Tim’s on the way to work and buying others coffee and on occasion falling asleep and ending up elsewhere, he lived in a group home with his best friend and went to many events and on many trips with his house buddies.
We are left with a lifetime of beautiful memories that we will cherish! We were grateful to have had him in our lives. We will forever miss Rick!
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Details will be provided in the Free Press and on the Cropo Funeral Chapel site.
We want to express our gratitude to DASCH and the Grace Hospital 3rd Floor South staff for the compassionate care they provided these last few weeks.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to DASCH and/or MB Special Olympics.
