Obituary of Richard Anthony Thompson-Walker
It is with deep sadness that we share that our loving husband, father and grandfather, Richard Anthony Thompson-Walker, 87, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025 at May Court Hospice, with family by his side.
Born on December 26, 1937 in Birchington, England, Richard was predeceased by his parents Alfred Thomas and May Florence Walker (Wiffin), brother John Walker and sister Anne Linnington (Walker). He leaves his wife Barbara after thirty-five wonderful years of marriage, 7 children, 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, along with many other cherished family and friends. Richard had immense pride in his family and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Barbara, daughters Jennifer (Nick), Nicky (Jonathan), and grandchildren Warren, Evelyn, Liam and Miles.
After serving in the army in England, Richard went on to work a long and rewarding career in finance, working in St Catharines, the Bahamas and Ottawa; retiring from TD Waterhouse at 80 years of age.
He kept active throughout his entire life, running marathons, swimming, biking, and much walking in later years. He enjoyed traveling, visiting over 27 countries with his wife and travel partner.
Richard found joy in every day. Those that knew him described him as a true gentleman. He made friends wherever he went, and was an extremely kind and generous person with both his time and resources – whether it was mentoring others, assisting with financial advice, or sharing the bounty from his vegetable garden with friends and neighbours in his quieter years.
His family is indebted to the wonderful care he received in his final days at May Court Hospice. A special thanks to his wife, Barbara, for her unwavering love, support and care as Richard courageously fought many health-related concerns over the last 5 years.
At Richard’s request, there will be no funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Richard’s memory to the May Court Hospice, 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa, K1S 0X1.
“A guide, a light, a soul so rare
With stories, laughs and love to spare
It was an honour just to know
The kindness he would always show
He may be gone but still lives on
In every dusk and every dawn.”
