Richard (Rick) van Heeswijk Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rick (Richard) van Heeswijk on February 21, 2025 at the age of 69.
Rick was born in Guelph, Ontario to Dick and Mieke van Heeswijk. Rick grew up in Waterloo but after graduating, he headed west to Calgary where he met his wife Cathryn and was married in 1980. After the birth of their daughter Sarah, Rick and Cathryn moved to BC in 1986. The family started out in Penticton where Rick enjoyed fishing and volunteering with the Naramata Fire Department. In 1995 the family moved to Princeton when Rick (who liked to be known as the Maytag man) purchased his own appliance repair shop. Rick took up gold panning as a hobby and many weekends through the summer months in Princeton he could be found sitting on the rocks in the river. After Cathryn passed away in 2020, Rick retired and moved back to Penticton where he spent his last few years enjoying his garden and spending time with his friends and family. Rick was well known for growing the best tomatoes which he was happy share with everyone that he met.
Rick was preceded in death by his wife Cathryn, parents Dick and Mieke, and his brother-in-law Rick. He is survived by his daughter Sarah (Travis), sister Gail, brother-in-law Pat (Rona), sister-in-law Candy, his nieces and nephew, and many great friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date when it is warm enough for family and friends to gather outside to enjoy a BBQ in Rick’s honour.
