SCHMIDT, RAY (BUD)
Passed away at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on February 13, 2025. Bud Schmidt of Lakefield, formerly of Hamilton and Toronto, at the age of 95. Beloved husband of the late Gwen Schmidt (née Leslie). Dear father of Wendy (Joe) Landry of St. Catharine’s, Pamela Maitland of Lakefield, and Betsy Schmidt (Kevin Raison) of Kingston. Devoted grandfather of Oriane Landry, Chantal (Kevin) Allison, Jillian (Brad Burriss) and Alana Raison (Chris Bell) Great-grandfather of Fiona, Hannah, Julie, and Isaac. Bud is survived by his sister, Patsy Schmidt.
Bud became a pilot and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a young man. After his service in the RCAF, he became a high school teacher, later an elementary school teacher and eventually principal in the Hamilton region. In their retirement, Bud and Gwen moved to their beloved home on the Duck Pond on Stoney Lake, a place where many happy memories were made with family and neighbours. Following Gwen’s passing Ray moved to Lakefield.
Arrangements have been entrusted to HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES – LAKEFIELD CHAPEL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Peterborough Humane Society by visiting the funeral home website at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com, or by calling 705-652-3355.
