Memorial Donation
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Ray. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. On Saturday January 11th, at the age of 91, Ray passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and children at Carbonear General Hospital.
Raymond Patrick Walsh was born in Cupids, NL on November 5th, 1933. Predeceased by his parents Mary and Patrick Walsh; his mother and father-in-law Maggie and Leo Williams; siblings Jim, Bill, Tom, Loretta, Vera, and Philomena; sisters and bother-in-law Margaret, Marie, and Leo; and his son Paul Walsh.
Ray had a lifelong love for painting, gardening, farming, as well as his newfoundland ponies and goats. He owned his own plaster and painting company, Ray Walsh and Sons Ltd., was an active member of the Newfoundland Pony Society, Knights of Columbus, and A.A. In addition to his plaster and painting company Ray worked with the Avalon West School District up until his retirement in 1997.
Ray met Evelyn in 1958 and were married shortly after in 1960. They raised eight beautiful children and took care of Mr. Keough and Mr. James at their home in Brigus. Together, as a family of ten, they grew their own vegetables and tended to their many farm animals.
Ray was a humble man with a great sense of humor and a joke for every occasion. He had a soft heart for animals and his family. He loved having company from friends and family and always made sure to keep in touch with family living away. His love and joy for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was unwavering. He loved when they would come to stay the night and help him with household tasks.
Ray is mourned by his loving wife Evelyn of 64 years; his sister Anne; his children John (Donna), Paul (Heather), Glen (Grace), Robert (Cathy), Caron, Greg (Joanne), Kim (Rodney) and Joann (Todd); Grandchildren Vanessa, Brandon, Raymond, Matthew, Kaelynn, Paige, Kelly, Karly, Janet, and Jennifer; his great-grandchildren Cody, Rori, and Cassie; as well as a large circle of friends and family near and far.
Ray was an incredible man to many. He lived a long and fulfilling life and loved to make people smile and laugh. He will be dearly missed by many.
Ray will be resting at Broughton’s Funeral Home January 14th from 10am – 9pm , January 15, 2025 from 10 A.M. – 12 P.M. with a funeral service held at St. Patrick’s Parish in Brigus on January 15th at 2:00 P.M.
