Raymond “Ray” Landry passed away in Stratford, Ontario, just shy of his 83rd birthday, leaving behind a life rich in adventure, friendship, and love.
Ray lived most of his life in Northern Ontario. He first married Linda, with whom he had three children: Debbie, Michelle, and Jeff. Later, Marilyn came into his life, bringing her daughters Michele, Nicole, and Monique adding even more love and joy. Ray lived his life the best he knew, and left this earth wishing only the best for his children. While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. In Ray’s final thoughts he shared his pride for all of his children and sincere thanks to friends.
Ray’s career was dedicated to the MNR although he had many roles, his greatest pride came from leading and planning wildfire response — organizing crews, equipment, and strategies to keep people and communities safe across Ontario. It was challenging, important work, and he was grateful to do it.
An avid outdoorsman, Ray spent much of his free time camping, fishing, and occasionally hunting. He had a special fondness for remote places, especially Pierre Lake. Chopping wood was one of his simple pleasures, and a perfectly split log would always earn the phrase, “Good Wood” — a saying he enjoyed so much he even put it on his license plate. Ray was also a passionate cook known for his sharp knives, a killer prime rib, and a love of bringing people together around the table.
Friendship was a constant in Ray’s life, both in the North and later in Stratford. He built lasting connections through curling, golf, and shared adventures with friends. Although His departure leaves a void in their lives, there is comfort in the memories and everlasting love they shared.
Above all, Ray will be remembered as a kind, generous man who loved life. He was known for his spontaneous dancing, quick wit, and the joy he found in making others laugh. Ray leaves behind his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride.
Ray’s family and friends will remember him for his warmth, laughter, and the countless memories he created. His legacy will live on in the kindness he showed and the joy he shared. — and in the reminder, when building a campfire, to always appreciate the good wood when you find it.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Stratford Rotary Hospice, who gave him great comfort and care in his last days.
