With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Ray who passed away on January 10th in his 94th year. He left this world peacefully with family by his side after a brief stay at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton.
Beloved and devoted husband of the late Pauline (née Auestad) for 63 years. Loving father to David, and Peter (Shelley). Caring grandfather to Megan (Mitchell), and Ryan, and proud great-grandfather to Bennett McEachern. Predeceased by his parents Maurice Lilley and Eveline Lilley (née Enderby), his brother Derek, and sister Barbara (Borrows), and will be deeply missed by his surviving Canadian and English relatives and friends.
Ray was born and raised in Boston, Lincolnshire, England and served in the British Royal Air Force, 617 Squadron known as the Dam Busters. He and Pauline moved to Canada as newlyweds where they settled into their beautiful tudor home within the Dundas Driving Park. He worked at Stelco’s Mobile Equipment Shop in Hamilton for 35+ years. Ray had a passion for tennis and was an active and lifetime member of the Dundas Tennis Club. He and Pauline enjoyed many summers at their trailer in Southampton.
Amazingly Ray was able to live in the cherished family home in good health for 61 years until the day before he passed away.
A very special thank you to Ray’s family doctor Dr. A. Chan and the compassionate doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their support in Ray’s final hours. To honour his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service and interment will be held as we lay Raymond and Pauline together forever at Grove’s Cemetery in Dundas.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation or Animal Adoptions of Flamborough.
