It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Raymond Donovan on Thursday January 16, 2025 at the Golden Manor at the age of 87.
Raymond was married to the love of his life Réjeanne Donovan (nee Lebrun). Dear father of Jimmy Donovan (Joanne Perron) and Mona Donovan Gosselin (Bernard), and cherished grandfather of Katie, Chad, and Leah.
He was predeceased by his parents Anita Gravel and Albert Donovan. Raymond was the oldest of 7 siblings: late Jacques Donovan (Denise Nadon), Pauline Lavallée (late Gus), Betty Tremblay (late Terry), late Lucille Nadon (Ronald), Albert Donovan (Nicole Bussière), and late David “Dave” Donovan (Patricia Kelly).
Raymond worked as a miner, but carpentry was his true career passion. Throughout his life, Ray built several cottages and approached each new project with fervor; he continued to build small objects even in the late stages of his struggle with dementia. After retiring at the age of 57, Ray wintered in Barbados for over 25 years with his wife, Réjeanne, where he was loved by the locals. In fact, those around Raymond frequently quoted the television show “Everybody Loves Raymond” because it was true—everybody did love Raymond! Ray was a kind man, a devoted father and ‘pépère’, and a loving husband of 66 years to Rej, whom he met at the tender age of 19. Ray loved life and lived it to the fullest. A true outdoorsman, Ray was nicknamed ‘Pikeman’ because of his fishing acuity. He was a fierce competitor in card games and impossible to outpace in beer count. Though Ray will be deeply missed by all, we choose to remember the vault of happy memories he gave us. Repose en paix Ray / dad / pépére. You rocked it.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of the Special Care Unit at the Golden Manor for their excellent care.
Cremation has taken place. Remembrance donations to the Alzheimer Society Timmins-Porcupine would be greatly appreciated.
