Raymond Smith Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Raymond David Brian Smith, a man who brought joy, wisdom, and light to everyone who knew him. On January 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, Ray was called to his eternal heavenly home, where he now rests in the loving arms of Jesus.
Ray was born on June 22, 1954, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was raised in the St. Vital district. In 1979, he ventured west to Alberta and a few years later found himself in Wetaskiwin to set up operations at the new Home Hardware Distribution Centre. It was there that he met his loving wife, Linda, and they married on March 14, 1986 in their home. Together, they shared 38 wonderful years of marriage.
Ray was the proud father of his three children, Amanda, Jared, and Patricia. He was a loving grandfather to his three grandchildren, Caitlyn, Evan, and Isabella, who will forever cherish his memory.
In 1993, Ray and Linda became independent business owners of Nutters Everyday Naturals in Wetaskiwin, later expanding their efforts by purchasing the Leduc franchise. Through these businesses, Ray became a respected and beloved pillar of the community. Known for his kindness, generosity, and genuine heart, he left a lasting mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ray is survived by his wife Linda; children Amanda (Arwid) Filbert, Jared Smith (Veronica Gonzales), Patricia (Justin) Beaule; grandchildren Caitlyn Hubler (Chris Henschell), Evan Filbert, and Isabella Filbert; brother Wilfred Smith; sister-in-law Gwen Smith, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, David and Helen (nee Marmonier) Smith ; siblings Gerry Smith, Richard Smith, Priscilla Smith and Irene Laurent; sisters-in-law, Rose Smith and Susan Smith; and brother-in-law, Bill Laurent.
