Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, she was in her 92nd year.
Beloved wife of the late Arnold Charles Gilpin who passed away August 27, 2012. Cherished mother of Dlane Gilpin (Jacques Houde), Linda Gilpin, Ace Gilpin, and Wade Gilpin (Stephanie Bausenhart). Proud grandmother of Lily Houde, Daniel Houde, Markus Gilpin and Charles Gilpin. Ramona is survived by her siblings Ross Appleyard, Bruce Appleyard, Joe Appleyard, Calvin Appleyard and Bill Appleyard, and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Ramona’s loves in life were her family, her home, and the community she lived in. So proud of her children and grandchildren – she was always delighted to hear details of their latest adventures and accomplishments and delighted in telling others about those details as well. It was her family that helped provide comfort to Ramona after the loss of her friend, companion, and husband when Arnold passed away in 2012. They are both dearly missed.
Ramona volunteered her time and energy to many organizations over the years, but most often to those that benefited the local community. The Emsdale Agricultural Society and its annual Emsdale Fall Fair was a passion for Ramona, a cause she devoted over 40 years to – both as an exhibitor and later, as President of the Board of Directors. She also volunteered her time to the Community Centre Board, Library Board, and as a member of the Horticultural Society.
At home, her gardening skills were on full display each spring as the gardens at our house bloomed with colour, and vegetables and berries ripened right through the summer into the fall. She loved planning out the gardens and various flower beds each winter – plans were made for the layout of the vegetable and berry gardens and seed catalogues were being scoured for the latest discovery of a new plant that she thought would grow well in the garden.
When not in the garden or at work, Ramona would be busy in our home with baking, pickling, or some knitting / sewing project she had on the go. We all have fond memories of our home being filled with the smell of fresh baked cookies, bread, pies, or some other tasty baked treat. Her bread and butter pickles were an annual hit!
A celebration of Ramona’s life will be held at a later date.
Our family would like to express its sincere gratitude for the kind, compassionate, quality care Ramona received in her last days at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital.
