Ralph Eerkes, a devoted husband, father, Grandpa, and servant of the community, passed away on January 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. His faith in God was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him to serve others with compassion and humility.
Born in 1934 in Groningen, Netherlands, Ralph spent his early years surrounded by the love of his family and the beauty of his homeland. He developed a passion for music, church, and camaraderie with his brothers. During World War II, Ralph survived the German occupation of Holland, an experience that shaped his resilience and compassion.
In 1952, Ralph immigrated to Canada with his family, where he established a successful painting company, Ralph Eerkes Painting & Decorating. Over 40 years, he built a business that employed family, friends, and an entire community, demonstrating his commitment to creating opportunities for others.
Ralph’s love for Elizabeth (Betty) Twilt led to a marriage that lasted a lifetime. Together, they raised four children and became pillars of their community. Ralph’s dedication to his family and faith was evident in his active membership at West End Christian Reformed Church and numerous service organizations, where he served in various capacities, focusing on advocating for and helping individuals and families from all walks of life. His love for God and his community drove him to serve others with kindness and generosity.
Throughout his life, Ralph and Betty traveled extensively, exploring different countries and traveling throughout Canada. Ralph particularly loved camping near water and found a second home at their beloved Jewel Bay Resort in B.C. Ralph’s love for sailing became a metaphor for his life’s journey. He found freedom on the water and shared that experience with others, symbolizing his zest for meeting and loving people.
Ralph’s heart for serving others led him to be instrumental in supporting Family Living Well Society. As Grandpa Ralph, he became a beloved figure, offering support, guidance, and kindness to countless individuals and families.
Throughout his life, Ralph embodied the principles of service, compassion, and generosity. His legacy continues to inspire those who knew him, and his impact on the community will be felt for generations to come.
Ralph is lovingly remembered by his children: Audrey (Jerry) Borst, Elaine (Brian) Mulder, Ruby (Rick) Los, and Eppo (Brenda) Eerkes; and his brother, Peter (Darlene) Eerkes.
