Obituary of Potitsa Kapsalis (née Koumbarakou)
March 20, 1930 ~ May 8, 2025
In Loving Memory of Potitsa Kapsalis (née Koumbarakou)
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Potitsa Kapsalis (née Koumbarakou). Surrounded by her loving family, she passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.
Beloved wife of the late Nikolaos Kapsalis, with whom she shared 69 years of devoted marriage. Loving mother to Georgia Raso (Michael), Stella Cosby (Ken), and Tina Thelwell (Junior), who will carry her spirit with them always.
She was a proud and devoted Yia-Yia to Jonathan Cosby (Jessica), Nicholas Thelwell and Emma Thelwell — the light of her life.
Potitsa found her greatest joy in their company, sharing stories, laughter, and love that will remain with them forever.
She is lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law Efrosini (George) Vouvalidis and Maria Mavropodi. Predeceased by her siblings George Koumbarakos (Maro), Peter Koumbarakos (Marini), Dino Koumbarakos (Ellie), and Sofia Gianarellis (Mimi).
Born on March 20, 1930, in Sparta, Greece, Potitsa immigrated to Canada on December 19, 1962, aboard the T.S.S. Olympia, joining her husband in London, Ontario, where together they built a life rooted in love, perseverance, and hope for the future.
Potitsa was known for her warm heart, her incredible cooking, and her deep love of family. Her home was always filled with the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals and the sound of laughter and storytelling. She took pride in her garden and delighted in sharing tales of her childhood and life in her beloved Sparta.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, a nurturing grandmother, and a gentle soul whose kindness touched everyone she met. Though she is no longer with us in presence, her love will forever live on in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Thank you, Mom and Yia-Yia, for the unconditional love, the wisdom, and the warmth you gave so freely. We will miss you deeply and carry your memory with us always.
~ May her memory be eternal ~
