Pierino Ferrante
October 20th, 1933 – January 26th, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pierino Ferrante on January 26 th , 2025 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Albina (nee Vitacolonna) for 64 years; cherished father to Paul, Silvio (Tatiana) and nonno to Sebastian and Mattea. He is remembered by his extended family in Ottawa, Stoney Creek and Rapino Italy. The late Liberata, late Emma, late Angelina (late Francesco), late Celeste (late Simone), late Fiorino (Maria), late Roberto (Ida), late Giovanni (Bambina), Antonietta (Antonio) and late Aldo. Predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Cecilia, parents-in-laws Antonietta and Silvio. Brother in-law late Livio Rosa (Marcella), Antonio Vitalcolona (Franca) and will be missed by all his Nephews/Nieces Marisa, Claudio, Fiorella, Gabriella, Silvio, late Simonetta, Joe, Mario, Tomas, Angela, Cecilia, Rita, Stefano, Dan, Flavia, and Moris. Pierino was born in Rapino, Chieti, Italy. As a young man he apprenticed as a bricklayer and worked in Switzerland and Germany. He helped in his family’s civil works business in Italy and continued in Ottawa and Hamilton, to build many public projects. In his retired years, Pierino enjoyed playing bocce and socializing at the local clubhouse. Pierino was well liked because of his jovial attitude. He took pride in traditional hobbies like gardening, making sausages, wine and tomato sauce with his wife. The hot pepper plants were a family favourite as was the cantina, filled with preserves. He will be remembered as a positive, caring person, always willing to lend a hand to his friends and family with new fireplaces to tiled floors. His words to live by were “You got to be strong, you got to be tough.”
A heartfelt thank you to the doctors and the support staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Emmanuel House Hospice, wonderful home care staff for the support these last few months and days.

Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Friday January 31, 2025 from 3-7 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Parish (304 Hwy 8, Hamilton, ON) on Saturday February 1, 2025 at 11am. Interment Bayview Cemetery & Mausoleum.
