Phyllis Rose Shwetz (née Prodaniuk)
It is with great sadness and so much love we say goodbye to our wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Phyllis Rose Shwetz (née Prodaniuk) of Waskatenau, Alberta. She passed away surrounded by her entire family at Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre on February 16, 2025, at the age of 85 years.
Phyllis was born in Radway on October 25,1939 to Mary and Fred Prodaniuk, their only child. She was a teacher, farm wife, avid gardener and church choir singer. She had intense love for her family, strong faith in God, vigorous opinions on politics and zero tolerance for animal cruelty.
Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by Sylvester, her husband of 62 years; her children, Becky (Dan) Burke, Joan (Peter) Lazowski and Andy (Shawnalee) Shwetz; grandchildren Dillon Mulak, Morgan (Mark) Thomson, Jessica (Russell) Olchowy, Tatianna (Trys) Eddy, Cody Lazowski (Kelly Rozanitis), Jake, Gus and Waylan Shwetz; great-grandchildren, Tucker and Allie Olchowy and April Thomson; and countless more relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mary Prodaniuk.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the amazing homecare staff and palliative care team from Smoky Lake, palliative paramedics as well as Dr. Lourens and the nurses and staff at the Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Waskatenau Community Centre, 5104 – 50 Street, Waskatenau, Alberta. Interment will follow in St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Church Cemetery, 4404 – 50 Avenue, Waskatenau, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers or other tributes, donations can be made to the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Waskatenau for the Roof Replacement Project, c/o Box 407, Waskatenau, Alberta, T0A 3P0.
