Obituary of Phillip Lawrence Frank
Phillip Frank April 12, 1952 – March 2, 2025 – Age 72; on March 2, 2025, Phillip Frank, lovingly known as “Grampy” by his grandchildren, passed away at his home in Hebbs Cross, Nova Scotia.
Born on April 12, 1952, in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, to Gilbert and Jessie (Weagle) Frank, Phillip was one of nine siblings.
Phillip met Elaine in 1972, beginning a lifelong love and partnership. They shared a spirit of adventure and were happiest in each other’s company – whether enjoying music, spending evenings singing with friends on Crooked Lake or taking drives in their classic cars. They married in 1982, and built their forever home in Hebbs Cross where they raised three children: Ashley (Johnathan) Frank, Tyler (Stephanie) Frank, and Sheena (Randy) Fancey who will forever cherish the memories of kindness and patience shown by their parents.
From the outside, Dad was a quiet man, but once you got him talking, he didn’t stop and often spoke proudly about his life and family. Dad lived for his grandchildren Mason, Jaxyn, Annie, Jack, and Leah, who will miss him dearly. He loved them beyond words and left a lasting impression on their lives – slipping them chocolate bars and treats whenever he could. The grandchildren quickly learned that if they wanted something, they just needed to ask Grampy, who could rarely say no to them.
Dad loved to be busy and work with his hands. His creativity knew no limits – from building the family home to rebuilding classic cars, creating interesting inventions, and helping with school science projects. His skills and imagination were endless.
Dad did whatever was necessary to provide for his family throughout the years. He delivered for Farmers Dairy for many years, worked at various service stations, helped with carpentry, detailed cars, and took on many other jobs to ensure his family never went without. He later made the decision to return to Lunenburg Vocational School (now known as NSCC) to complete the automotive technician program and earned his provincial license as an automotive technician in 1988 — credentials he proudly kept current until the day he passed.
Dad’s love for tinkering evolved into creating art from upcycled materials, including car springs, barrels, and water tanks. Some of his creations included life-sized nutcrackers, Angry Birds, and the ever-popular garden Minions which will live on in gardens across Lunenburg County. His creations were recognized in exhibits at the South Shore Exhibition, where he won several awards over the years.
After his wife’s passing in 2023, Dad stepped up as the family baker. Although the results were not always perfect, he would often have bread, pies, and pastries baked before 7 a.m. His baking became a labor of love that he shared with family, friends, and community bake sales.
Phillip is survived by his three children: Ashley (Johnathan) Frank, Tyler (Stephanie) Frank, and Sheena (Randy) Fancey; and his five grandchildren: Mason, Jaxyn, Annie, Jack, and Leah. He is also survived by his siblings: Gilbert (Gloria) Frank, Donald (Sandra) Frank, Aubry Frank, Margaret (George) Fraser, Lorna (Dale) Ham, and Audrey (Caroll) Arenburg, as well as many nieces, nephews and a large extended family. Phillip was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, his parents, Gilbert and Jessie (Weagle) Frank, brother John Frank, and sister Isabelle Neal.
Our father and family have been blessed with so much support and kindness. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at South Shore Regional Hospital and Nova Scotia Health for their compassionate care and support provided to Dad over the years.
At Dad’s request, a private graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, followed by a public reception at the Hebbville Fire Department Hall starting at 2 p.m. Donations in Dad’s memory may be made to the Hebbville Academy Breakfast or Hebbville Academy Band programs.
