It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Philip Michael Scott Jones (Phil) on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in his 73rd year.
Son of the late Richard (Dick) and Vera Jones, Phil will be greatly missed by his beloved brother, Richard Jones (the late Gail Jones); his niece, Leanne (Kyle); nephews, Jeremy and Jeffrey (Tiffany); two great-nephews and a great-niece; his dear friend, Nancy; his wonderful friends; and all those who had the honour and privilege to know him.
Phil was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He attended Hillfield-Strathallan College and McMaster University where he obtained degrees in both business and French.
Each interest grew with time, from his life-long fascination with hamsters as a child, into his teen years working out and strength training, as well as teaching himself the bass guitar that his brother bought him to become an excellent bass player, performing with various bands in the area throughout his life.
He absorbed as much knowledge as he could for each added interest. He loved music, especially classical, rock, and progressive rock. He spent years experimenting with audio equipment to create the perfect audio system to enjoy his music. His love of travel became his greatest passion, and he spent as much time as possible traveling throughout Europe and Great Britain. He became fluent in German and French. He was a walking encyclopedia of world history, current events, old British films and photography, the list is endless. Daily cycling, walking or hiking great distances were part of his daily routine.
It will come as no surprise to all who knew him that Phil chose to face this final journey with the same courage and curiosity that he gave to each of his adventures. His family and friends would like to thank the tireless efforts of the doctors, nurses and staff at Joseph Brant Hospital, and especially those who cared for him with such compassion in the Intensive Care Unit.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the late spring, details to follow. If desired, memorial contributions would be sincerely appreciated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
