Obituary of Peter Podgorny
Peter (Piotr) Podgorny, born 1 November, 1937 in Witoszynce, Poland and passed away peacefully on 25 March, 2025 at Victoria Hospital in London Ontario at the age of 88.
Peter immigrated to Canada and gained full citizenship in 1969. He went on to become a licensed General Machinist and fulfilled a long term career at General Motors working in the Locomotive Division. There, he made many lasting friendships that carried on long after his retirement in 2002.
As a beloved father and grandfather, Peter’s presence filled us with warm memories of laughter, storytelling, and travel adventures.
He took great pride in his home, his family and community connections, encouraging others to feel like family. His love for nature, gardening, cuisine, and ‘nalewka’ brought him joy to share with those around him.
His natural talent of speaking freely always made things interesting, just one of his many unique qualities we will truly miss. Peter’s enduring support to family and friends by offering his skill of repairing items, making what was once broken new again was his trademark.
The family would like to thank Longworth Retirement Village, acknowledging the friendly staff and residents.
It is with great pride that we come together to celebrate the life and legacy of Peter Podgorny. Services will be held at Donohue Funeral Home on Friday 28 March, 2025 at 12pm for visitation, 1pm service and 2pm departure to St. Peter’s Cemetery.
