Peter Spilchen Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter on December 11, 2024 at Hospice Renfrew surrounded by the love of his family at the age 91. Pete was born on a farm near Springside, Sask. to his parents Mike and Magda (Pawliw) Spilchen. Predeceased by his siblings Bill (Anna), John (Mary), Pauline (Frank) Tomanek, Ann (Fred) Chupa, Paul, brothers in law Ed Ockochinski and Paul Korchouski. His sister Katie died December 31, 2024. Survived by sister Mary Korchouski.
Loving husband of Jean (Parker) for 67 years. Cherished Dad of Robert (Charlene), Donna, Terry (Nancy) and Leah (Alan). Predeceased by his infant daughter Joan and his son Tim (deceased January 6, 2025) (Pam). Beloved grandpa of Robbie, Keith (Jessica), Lindi Spilchen, Jillian (Mike) Sylla, Ben Spilchen, Krystyna (Jeff) Roy, Kelsey (Caleb) Hall, Caleb and Cody Spilchen, Summer Spilchen-Bicho and Mya Spilchen. Dear great-grandpa of Owen, Jaxon and Madelon Sylla, Valerie Spilchen, Clio, Cedric and Mavis Roy, Nyomi & Navie Spilchen, Cyrus, Willow and Misty Hall. He will be fondly remembered by the Parker family and his many nieces and nephews.
Pete’s first job was at a lumber camp in Kapuskasing area as a cook’s helper for a year. He was then hired by Inco (now Vale) where he was an underground miner for 30 years after working in the smelter for a year. He enjoyed his family and was an avid fisherman and hunter until the latter years when he simply enjoyed being in the bush, gardening and watching sports and listening to music. He will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, Renfrew on Saturday January 25, 2025 at 11:00 am. Spring interment Parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Peter may be made to St. Francis Xavier Church or Hospice Renfrew.
