Dad was born in Hague, Saskatchewan on October 19, 1929. He grew up on his parents’ farm in the Hague area. He was baptized on June 7, 1954, by Bishop Abram Buhler at the Reinfeld Bergthal Mennonite Church near Hague, Saskatchewan. He has served the Lord with all his heart ever since. Mom and dad went to Reinfeld Bergthal Mennonite Church near Hague for many years. Around 1980 they left the Reinfeld Church and joined the Hague Sommerfeld Mennonite Church.
Dad worked many jobs when he was young, logging in B.C., copper mining in Ontario, working for the CN, and many other jobs. He was almost thirty years old when he met mom and decided to settle down. They both worked as farm help for a few years after they got married on September 21, 1958. In July of 1964, they finally were able to buy their own farm in the Hague/Rosthern area. They started dairy farming in 1978, and in 1982 they built a new house. The farm kept us all busy until we left home. In 1988, they quit dairy farming. In 1992, they moved to Gruenthal. In 2005, dad and mom moved into Sunset Manor in Hague. He died there on January 14, 2025.
Dad is lovingly remembered by his children Mary Ann (Steve) Frise, John (Mary) Hamm, Jake (Susie) Hamm, daughter-in-law Susan Hamm, Sarah (Jonah) Bueckert, Marg Friesen, Henry (Tina) Hamm, David (Laurie) Hamm; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters; three brothers; in-laws; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dad was predeceased by mom Sarah; his parents Peter and Sara (Fehr) Hamm; son Abe; three brothers; one sister; and in-laws.
