Pellicone, Gregory Joseph
June 4, 1927 – March 6, 2025
Gregory (Jerry to his Massachusetts relatives) passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at Parkland on the Glen Retirement Home.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Gina (nee Gigliuto – 1991), after 38 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his older siblings, Mary Caruso and Anthony Pelliccione, and his youngest sibling, Robert Pelliccione, died on March 22, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
He was a loving father to John, Susan (Terry) and David (Kathi), a loving grandfather to Elizabeth, Michael, Kathleen (Scott), Paul (Lisa), Joseph and Sean (Lane) and a caring great grandfather to Olivia, Luca, Lina, Charles, Gillian, Hutson (2013).
Gregory’s parents’ were Italian immigrants who struggled with poverty during the depression. He was the third of four children in his family and the first to go to university. He had a successful career as a textile chemist with Burlington Industries in the USA. He and Gina took the leap to come to Canada in 1977, when Gregory accepted a position with Kraus Carpets in Waterloo, Ontario.
He was a very talented athlete. He played 3rd base for his junior A baseball team as a teenager and recalled playing tournaments in Montreal. Gregory started his love for golf as a youngster when he earned money as a caddie. He became a scratch golfer and continued to play the game until the age of 91. He was also an avid pool player and was know as the “pool shark” at his retirement home.
After Gina died in 1991, Gregory became both grandfather and grandmother to his grandchildren. He always retained his sense of humour, thoughtfulness and playfulness, even when he was suffering from pain and had declining health. He will be greatly missed.
