Paul William Pelley
Born on March 28, 1972 in Fergus, Ontario and passed away peacefully at his group home (Charrette House) on January 13, 2025 at the age of 52, surrounded by his family and caring staff.
Paul was the loving son of and is survived by his parents Fred and Chris (Johnston) Pelley, treasured brother of Leanne and husband Jamie Bush, and adored uncle to Katie, Emmy, Annie and Marty. He will be greatly missed by his uncle Cal Johnston (Catherine) and his cousins Riley and Callie (Fergus, Ontario) and his family in Newfoundland – aunt Shirley Jenkins (Roy Jenkins and Ray Watkins, both pre-deceased) and cousins Glen (Donna), Marilyn (Hubert), and Carolyn (Faron), his aunt Phyllis Small (Doug, pre-deceased), and cousins Brian (Donna), Joy (Louis) and Lynn (Mark), and family of uncle Lloyd and Dulcie Pelley (both deceased) and cousins Archie, Stan (Queen), Sharon (Brian), Brian (Donna), Wallace (Angela), and Jackie (John) and their families.
Paul was incredibly strong and independent, spending his school years at the W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind in Brantford Ontario. Once graduated, he started his adult-life first supported by the Guelph-Wellington Association for Community Living (GWACL). He then moved to Ottawa in 2010 to be closer to family, supported by the Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OCAPDD) at the Forest Gate group home in Barrhaven and since 2018 at the Charrette House. Paul was able to live a fully independent and enriched life with his work and day programs, network of friends and family, social activities and amazing support staff.
Paul endured many health and medical challenges, countless surgeries and recoveries in his short life. The family wish to express their deepest gratitude to the surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff at the Sick Kids in Toronto in his early years and to the Ottawa Hospital (Neuro-Surgery team, the F7 crew, NACU, PACU and ICU) in recent years for their dedication and support to Paul. But Paul wouldn’t have been able to make his incredible recoveries without the support of OCAPDD and the incredible management and staff, particularly the dedicated, caring and committed team at Charrette House. The family is eternally grateful.
Paul will be greatly missed by all those he touched, but particularly his friends and family in Newfoundland, Guelph, Rockwood, Fergus/Elora, and Ottawa areas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed in Paul’s memory to the Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities.

There will be a celebration at the Highland Park Cemetery this Saturday, January 18th, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM (2037 McGee Sideroad, just off of Carp Rd). Everyone is welcome to attend.
