Obituary of Patricia Gayle Rock
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia (Pat) Gayle Rock (Hodgson), who was born on April 16, 1947, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of February 27, 2025, at the age of 77. She spent her final moments at Craigwiel Gardens Long-Term Care Facility, and in the hours before her passing, she was surrounded by the love and presence of her loving family. Pat is survived by her husband, William, and her loving sons, David, Jamie, and Brian. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Jessline, and Celyne, as well as her three adored great-grandchildren, Jacqueline, Cole, and Ayden. She is also survived by her beloved younger sister, Cathy Robinson, and her younger brother, George Hodgson, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Pat lived a life filled with joy, passion, and an unwavering commitment to the people around her. She had an infectious smile and an innate ability to make everyone she met feel special and valued. Her love for life was evident in everything she did, but nowhere was it more apparent than in her calling as an educator. Teaching was not just a career for Pat—it was her passion. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to shaping young minds, always striving to be the best teacher she could be.
While working at McGillivray Elementary School, she balanced her professional and personal responsibilities with incredible determination. She attended Western University in the evenings to earn her Bachelor of Education, all while raising her three sons. Her drive and perseverance were nothing short of inspiring, and she instilled these values in her children and students alike.
In addition to her dedication to teaching, Pat had a beautiful singing voice and frequently performed at weddings in her younger years, bringing joy to many with her musical talent. She also had a deep passion for traveling, always eager to explore new places and experience different cultures. Whether it was a road trip with her family or an overseas adventure, she cherished the excitement of discovering the world.
Sadly, Pat was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in the 80’s, a challenge she faced with immense strength and grace. Though it broke her heart to step away from teaching a decade later, her passion for education and the well-being of others never faded. Even as her condition progressed, she remained a beacon of positivity, always eager to share her wisdom, laughter, and warmth with those around her.
Her laughter and radiant spirit could brighten even the darkest days, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Though she may no longer be with us in body, Pat’s kindness, passion, and love of life will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place.
A celebration of life will be held in Ailsa Craig this spring to honour Pat’s remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, a cause that was close to her heart.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Denning’s of Ailsa Craig.
