The family of Onofre Fernandez Gonzalez is brokenhearted to announce his passing on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the age of 87.
Born in Gijon, Spain he was a son of José and Covadonga (Fernandez) Gonzalez.
In his younger years Onofre loved soccer and enjoyed not only watching the game but also playing it. He liked to be active and would love to go biking and take walks, especially with his dog, Suki. Onofre was a very private person whose greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, he was our “papa.” Meticulous when it came to food, he enjoyed every meal like “dining.” He was also a great handyman who always showed attention to detail. Onofre used to have an iron works business in Lunenburg. Some of the iron railings he made can be seen today at churches and businesses in the area. Arriving from Spain in the 1960’s Onofre spent his working life as a fitter at Halifax Industries Ltd.
Onofre is survived by his devoted wife, Priscilla; daughters, Natasha (Terry) Knickle and Felicia (Mike) Skinner; grandchildren, Jessie (Cory) Creaser, Riley (Betsy) Knickle, Brody Knickle and Kelsey (Connor) Skinner; great grandchildren, Lexie, Desi, Odin and Ella; sisters, Maria Monstserrat, Maria del Carmen; brother, Roberto (Tere), brother-in-law, Dale (Lynne) Lohnes, sister-in-law, Brenda Lohnes and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Onofre was predeceased by his brother, José Luis and brothers-in-law, Maxi and George Lohnes.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg. A private family service conducted by Rev. Cathy Lee Cunningham will be held in the near future at his new home that he loved so much but had little time to enjoy.
