Norman Mercer Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Norman Bruce Mercer mourns his passing, which occurred peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on March 2nd, 1952, in Bay Roberts, NL he is the youngest son of the late Isaac and Hazel (Rose) Mercer. With his strong values and compassion, Norman provided a stable and loving home for his family. Norman’s strong and faithful devotion to Nancy throughout their lives together is a testament of his sworn vows and ethical values. His love was cherished by his family and friends. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Norman is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years Nancy (Broderick); daughters Karen Lunn (Daryl) of Saint John, Patricia Byers of Saint John, Angela Galloway (Ken) of Quispamsis; brothers Douglas Mercer of Newfoundland, Walter Mercer of Edmonton AB; grandchildren Travis Lunn, Trevor Lunn, Mark Jr Hall, Vanessa Hall, Shannon Byers, Cody Galloway; great grandchildren Rachel, Kashton, Mckenzie, Lily and Roux-Bea as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Norman worked as a Tower and Mobile Crane Operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) local 946 his entire career. In his earlier years he offered towing and snow removal services in his spare time. His passion for cranes led him to test the waters as an instructor at NBCC. He was respectfully known to many as “Stormin’ Norman” or “Newf”. He loved going to auctions, car shows and collecting classic cars.
The Family would like to extend their much appreciation to Dr. Sasha Sealy, the Staff of Saint John Regional Hospital 3CS and 4BS and 3BN for their compassion and accommodations in palliative care.
Arrangements are under the direction of Funding Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd. (506-646-2424) with visitation being held on Tuesday March 4th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Memorial Service will take place in the Fundy chapel on Wednesday, March 5th at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. Donations in memory of Norman may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, The Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
