Norma Greta Laffin Obituary
Laffin, Norma Greta
Peacefully at Lanark Lodge, surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Stirling Frederick Laffin. Loving mother of Linda (Stan) Oglov, Joy (Bob) Elkins, Pat (Brett) Klappstein, Judy (late Doug) Hermer, Lee Laffin, and Randy (Tracey) Laffin. Forever missed by her grandchildren Rob, Gillian, Hannah (Brandon), Jason (Jamie-Lynn), Laura (Brandon), Ruthie (Mike), Jessica (Phil), and Nicole. Dear great-grandmother of Max, Sam, Kate, Travis, Sophie, Zoey, Oliver, and Mathilde. Predeceased by her parents Norman and Mary MacPherson, and her siblings Verna (Ross), Cameron (Bessie), Stanley (Ruth), and Doris (Joe). Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Norma was renowned for her incredible love and support of family and friends. She was a partner with her husband Stirling in their livestock business over many years. While raising six children and helping with grandchildren, she was frequently to be found forking hay in the barn, driving hired help to various places and of course feeding a table of 8 or more, three meals a day. She could bake a delicious pie, help a child with their homework and in winter bring in frozen laundry off the clothes line, propping stiff long johns all over the house to melt and dry and make the kids laugh.
If she got a call from a relative or other friend, she was on her way to help them with what they needed. If they needed to be cheered up, her own laughter soon had them laughing too. Her family brought her joy, whether it was a son or son in law with a funny story, a grandson with a huge laugh, or the beauty and kindness of her granddaughters. She was immensely proud of all generations of her family for their intelligence, accomplishments and most of all for the good people they have become. Towards the end of her life, her great-grandchildren could light up her smile in a moment. Her six kids considered her a friend, as well as a deeply loved and cherished mother. She was indeed “too well loved to be forgotten”.
A special “Thank You” to the staff at Lanark Lodge for their care and compassion over the years.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday, March 01, 2025, from 10:00am till the time of the funeral service in the Chapel at 12:00pm. Interment at will take place at Malakoff Cemetery in Spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lannin Funeral Home.
